The New Standards play Northrop Wednesday, Noon-1pm *free*

web_header_the_new_standards

It’s not Seward, but it’s close and it’s awesome. Your Wednesday lunch break is going to be the best thing to happen to you this week. The New Standards – Chan Poling, John Munson, and Steve Roehm (legends and gems, each one of ’em) – are playing a free show from Noon-1pm at Northrop Plaza on Wednesday. From Northrup’s site:

“In an age of digital overkill, The New Standards keep the instrumentation, and their ‘revisionist jazz’ sound, simple.

John Munson of Trip Shakespeare/Semisonic fame, Chan Poling, founder of the haute-punk new-wave group The Suburbs, and Steve Roehm, vibraphonist extraordinaire, got together with a plan to play and sing their favorite songs. The group’s elegant and illuminating song selections span the twentieth century.”
