From the Artist: “Nature in a Dream State” took root in a somber event – my mother-in-law’s death – but blossomed into a colorful, vibrant body of work.
In April 2017 my family and I drove from Minneapolis to St. Louis for the funeral. We left snow, ice, and cold behind and journeyed into warmer temps and a slowly greening landscape. By the time we got to St. Louis it was truly Spring. Before entering the city we stopped at a state park to stretch our legs. Walking around in sweatshirts, we soaked in the open water, gentle breeze, sun, grass, and birdsong. I took the first photo of this exhibit in that place – “My Missouri Spring Fever”.
Throughout the rest of the year I endeavored to extract a soft, hazy, gentle persona from flowers and landscapes. A few of the pieces are old images that I re-edited in a desire to bring out those characteristics. However, most of the photos were taken that spring using iphone and editing in instagram and/or iphoto.
